Ranking all of Molly Moon's ice cream flavors (May 2026)

May 26, 2026

NOTE: This is an update to our ranking in June 2024. Also, we were joined by our visiting friends, Greg and Alex, so you’ll see their commentary here too.

We’ve probably gone to Molly Moon’s more than any other ice cream shop in Seattle. The variety of flavors, service, quality, and convenience are hard to beat. If you care about this sort of thing, there’s a great founder story and some excellent business practices.

For only $16.95 (as of June 2026), you can try all of their flavors. It’s best to split this one with a friend because the portions are pretty generous. I have to imagine this is a loss leader for the brand. If so, it’s pretty effective. I ended up trying new flavors that will keep me coming back for sure. It gets even cheaper if you get a Molly Moon’s gift card from Costco. Be sure to get their stamp card too.

On a scale of 0-5 (in 0.5 increments), here’s how Leah and I ranked all the flavors at Molly Moon’s. Four of the flavors are seasonal.

1 = really disliked this, I don’t want to taste this again

2 = if it was offered for free at a party, I guess I’d taste it

3 = not a favorite, but I would pay for it again.

4 = really liked this

5 = very impressed with this

Scoring for May 2026

Cookies and cream

Raja: 4.5 - “good chunky cookies”

Leah: 4.0 - “solid flavor. Tastes like cookie dough tho. Lots of cookie.”

Alex: 4.0 - “fresh and milky. My bite didn’t have any cookie in it, all cream (maybe Greg’s fault)”

Greg: 3.0 - “solid but I don’t love cookies and cream, so might be a harsh score.”

Strawberry - organic strawberries from Viva Farms (farm incubator in Skagit Valley), swirls and chunks plus vanilla extract

Raja: 5.0 - “a perfect strawberry”

Leah: 4.0 - “light strawberry flavor. Subtle. Very sweet. Don’t know if I’d want a whole cone because it’s so sweet.”

Alex: 2.0 - “too sweet and tastes like strawberry syrup. But dece!”

Greg: 4.5 - “really subtle and rich flavor, not too sweet”

Melted chocolate - instead of cocoa powder, they use 70% dark, organic, direct trade K'UL chocolate; melted using a hot mix of cream, milk and sugar to get a dense, extra fudgy chocolate

Raja: 3.5 - “very good chocolate flavor if you’re a chocolate ice cream lover”

Leah: 3.0 - “kinda basic chocolate ice cream. reminds me of kids bday party grocery store carton ice cream. ”

Alex: 2.0 - “Eh. Tastes like a normal plain chocolate ice cream to me.”

Greg: 4.0 - “not a chocolate ice cream lover but this is really solid version”

Sweet cream

Raja: 4.0 - “a clean cream flavor that’ll pair well with anything”

Raja: 5.0 - “a superb execution”

Leah: 5.0 - “love this flavor”

Greg: 3.5 - “too sweet for me but delicious and decadent”

Birthday cake batter [SEASONAL May 2026] - sprinkles folded into buttery vanilla ice cream

Raja: 1.5 - “how’d this pass? Has a decent enough buttery aftertaste but not a fan”

Blueberry pie, vegan [SEASONAL May 2026] - swirls of blueberry pie filling (Viva Farms), buttery pie crust in the vegan coconut ice cream

Observations

  • If you averaged our scores, the highest to lowest scoring flavors were

    • Honey lavender: 4.375

    • Triple chocolate cake: 4.375

    • Iced latte: 4.25

    • Cookies and cream: 3.875

    • Strawberry: 3.875

    • Sweet cream: 3.75

    • Melted chocolate: 3.125

    • Yeti: 3.125

    • Cookie dough: 3.0

    • Strawberry shortcake: 3.0

    • Scout mint: 2.5

    • Blueberry pie, vegan: 2.375

    • Coconut chunk, vegan: 2.25

    • Salted caramel: 2.0

    • Birthday cake batter: 1.75

  • Average ratings and top flavors for each person were:

    • Raja (3.5): Honey lavender, Triple chocolate cake, Iced latte, Cookies and cream

      • I gave out the most 5/5 ratings.

    • Leah (2.9): Honey lavender, Triple chocolate cake, Iced latte

      • Leah was the most critical, but we had a lot of overlap in our favorites fortunately.

    • Alex (3.2): Iced latte, Sweet cream

      • Alex had a high floor in her rankings. For everyone’s least favorite flavors (birthday cake, salted caramel, vegan ones), she would also give a low score but it’d be more generous.

    • Greg (3.1): Sweet cream, Honey lavender, Strawberry

      • Greg is more of a purist and penalized busy flavors. He never gave a 5/5 and never gave a 1/5.

This was a lot of fun. I’d love to do this test with another ice cream shop like Salt & Straw or a retailer like Van Leeuwen, but it’d be really expensive unless I could get a group of like-minded enthusiasts for that.
